Initiated in 1972, Surface Technology is supervised by China South Industries Group Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "CSGC") and sponsored by CSGC’s Southwest Institute of Technology and Engineering. Published by the Editorial Department, the journal enjoys high recognition in China’s surface technology field and has a broad base of authors and readers. It is dedicated to surface science and technology, bridging fundamental research, key technological breakthroughs, and engineering applications to address national strategic priorities and socio-economic needs. With the mission of presenting high-level research achievements, supporting the growth of outstanding academic talents, promoting international academic exchange, driving industrial development, building a platform to support national technological innovation, and serving high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and strength, it primarily reports on scientific research, new technologies, and new processes in surface technology fields such as corrosion and protection, friction wear and lubrication, precision and ultra-precision machining, surface modification of medical biomaterials, bioinspired functional surfaces, and functional films.


Surface Technology accepts both research and review articles. It is a semimonthly publication, issued on the 10th and 25th days of each month, and is publicly distributed both domestically and internationally.
