Abstract

Objective To study the residual stress field on titanium alloy after centrifugal roll finishing. Methods By using finite analysis software ABAQUS, a 3D finite element model was built for the collision between centrifugal grinding block and TC4 titanium alloy materials. The system energy conversion, material strain and regularity of residual stress field were analyzed with different finishing parameters, and the processing effects were compared between SiC grinding block and Al2O3 grinding block. Results The simulation results showed that the parameters of grinding block had significant effects on the peak value of the compressive residual stress, but had no effect on its occurrence location. Compared with SiC grinding block, the Al2O3 grinding block was more suitable for processing titanium alloy. Conclusion Finite element simulation could be used to investigate the distribution rule of the Ti alloy material residual stress field, and to guide the optimization of the technological parameters of titanium alloy processing. The crash simulation verified that Al2O3 grinding block was more suitable for centrifugal roll finishing of Ti alloy material.
