Objective UV curable organosilicon / SiO₂ hybrid coatings were prepared. Influence of Dimethoxymethylphenylsilane ( PDMS) content on the properties of the coatings was discussed. Methods UV curable organosilicon / SiO₂ hybrid sol with different PDMS contents was synthesized by the method of sol-gel in which tetraethyl orthosilicate ( TEOS) was used as the precursor of inorganic component, while Dimethoxymethylphenylsilane ( PDMS) and γ-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane ( KH-570) were used as the precursors of organsilicone. Then the organosilicone / SiO₂ hybrid coatings were obtained by UV curing. The performance of coatings were characterized by methods of mechanical tests, thermo gravimetric analysis, heat resistance tests and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests. Results Hydrolysis-condensation reaction occurred to all precursors, resulting in UV curable organosilicon / SiO₂ hybrid coatings. The hardness of the hybrid coatings decreased with the increasing PDMS contents, however, the coating exhibited good impact strength, flexibility and adhesion. Conclusion PDMS addition can improve the properties of coatings. The hybrid coatings had the optimal heat resistance and corrosion-resistance performances with the molar ratio of TEOS : PDMS :KH-570 set at 15 : 16 : 7.
