Abstract

Objective To study effects of V and Nb on microstructure and properties of arc sprayed martensitic stainless steel alloy. Methods New arc sprayed martensitic stainless steel flux-cored wires with different amount of V / Nb were developed, and the wear resistant alloy coatings were prepared on the surface of the Q235 low-carbon steel by HAVS using the wire. The microstructure and properties of the alloy coatings were detected and analyzed by using the equipment such as SEM, XRD, microhardness tester and wear tester. Results The coatings had good forming properties, less porosity, uniformity of microstructure and compact structure. The average value of adhesion strength was about 35 . 48 MPa. The average microhardness value was about 523 HV0 . 1 , which was higher than that of 4 Cr13 coatings, and the abrasive wear resistance was enhanced with the additional use of elements V and Nb. Conclusion V / Nb could improve the forming of carbide hard phase particles in the coatings and enhance the performance of the alloy coatings.
