Abstract

In order to study the relationship between surface morphology of bionic coatings and abrasion, the images of surface morphology of the coatings before and after friction and wear were acquired. The gray-scale images were binarized by Matlab software, and then the pits distribution rate used for characterizing the surface morphology was extracted. Meanwhile, the changes of the abrasion loss and the pits distribution rate were studied separately. The relationship between abrasion loss and pits distribution rate of the coatings in the process of friction and wear was analyzed. The results show that there exists an optimum pits distribution rate that makes the coatings has a better wear resistance.
