Abstract

The wear experiments of nickel-based nano-SiC coatings in 5%H2SO4 solution and under different loadings were studied. Each component of the weight loss of corrosive wear was calculated by using the electrochemical experiments and weight-loss method. The results show that synergism between the corrosion and wear is a main factor which affects the weight loss of coatings with increasing the applied loading, and corrosion promoting wear plays a key role during the synergism processing. When the applied loading of 100 N and 300 N are given, passivation films don’t appear on the coatings during the wear processing; When the applied loading of 200 N is given, passivation films appear and they are broken quickly by friction, thus inducing corrosion, new films appear again, which is confirmed by polarization curves and surface micro-morphologies of corrosive wear.
