Abstract

CrN hard coatings were deposited onto steel substrate using closed unbalanced field magnetron sputterion plating system. Friction coefficient of CrN hard coatings and M42 high speed steel(HSS)against plastics(PA66,ABS) were investigated using Pin-on-disc tester. The microstructures of worn surfaces and wear debris of CrN films were observed using SEM and stereomocroscope. The results show that the friction coefficient of CrN hard coatings is smaller and more stable than that of M42 HSS when wearing against plastics(PA66,ABS). The friction coefficient is unstable when the plastics direct wear the high-speed steel.
