Abstract

Surface weave has become one of the effective ways to reduce friction and antiwear in modern machinery. The weave parameters, lubrication state, surface morphological characteristics, location and distribution all play an important role in friction and antiwear. As an important part of the engine, the piston loses 40% of the total energy generated by the engine, which is nearly half of the energy lost by the engine friction. Therefore, it is indispensable for the development of the engine to prepare the surface weave on the piston-cylinder liner to improve the tribological performance of the piston friction and keep the engine in good performance in actual operation. In this paper, the research progress of surface weave application on piston-cylinder liner in terms of finite element simulation and laboratory experimental research were reviewed, and then the frictional wear effects on piston/cylinder liner in terms of weave shape, weave surface density, weave arrangement and other parameters were compared. The tribological performance of the surface weave after its application was shown by the wear amount and friction coefficient between mechanical components. Finally, the development trend of surface weave in piston/cylinder liner was discussed.
