Abstract

This paper aims to determine the optimal grinding parameters when minimizing the edge chipping area of the zirconia ceramic exited hole under rotary ultrasonic grinding, and prove the rationality of the strategy of suppressing chipping with auxiliary supported at the bottom of the workpiece, provide theoretical guidance for actual production. The hole quality evaluation index was the ratio Hd value of the hole edge collapse area to the ideal hole area after processing. Firstly, the orthogonal experiment of hole grinding for zirconia ceramics were carried out . The experiment was set to three factors and four levels. The factors were spindle speed, feed speed and ultrasonic amplitude. The influence trend of each factor on Hd value was obtained and the optimal grinding was predicted parameter combination; Secondly, single-factor experiments were used to further analyzed the influence of each factor on the Hd value and determine the optimal grinding parameter range. Finally, auxiliary supports were added to the bottom of the workpiece to further reduce the Hd value. The optimal processing parameter range obtained through experiments, the spindle speed was 15 000~17 000 r/min, the feed speed was 0.5~0.6 mm/min, and the ultrasonic amplitude was 6~8 μm, the Hd value can be controlled at 3.308×10-3 within. After using auxiliary support, the Hd value can be reduced by up to 11.83%. The hole Hd value of zirconia ceramics under rotary ultrasonic grinding decreases firstly and then increases with the increase of spindle speed, feed rate and ultrasonic amplitude. When ensuring the optimal feed speed, increase the spindle speed and ultrasonic amplitude appropriately It is helpful to improve the surface quality of the hole and increase the processing efficiency. The strategy of adding auxiliary support under the workpiece can effectively reduce the area of the edge of the hole, and prove its feasibility from the theory and experiment.
