Study on Fungi Community of Coating Surface in Tropical Rainforest

Abstract

In this study, our object is to investigate the fungal community structure and diversity on different coating materials in the tropical rainforest, and to discuss the corrosion or biodegradation effect of fungi.Five materials including polyester coating, fluorocarbon coating, Cr-containing anti-fingerprint coating, Cr-free anti-fingerprint coating and hot-dip galvanized sheet were exposed 2 years at Xishuangbanna atmosphere test station. We collected the fungi from the materials in dry and rainy seasons for 4 times, which were cultured by traditional culture methods and identified by molecular biology methods. The dominant genera were statistically analyzed. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used to study the corrosion behavior of molds on the coatings. Finally, 154 strains of fungi were isolated and purified. Of them, 37 genera in 10 orders of 3 classes of Ascomycota and 12 genera in 6 orders of 3 classes of Basidiomycota were identified by ITS rDNA sequence analysis. The dominant genera based on statistics were Daldinia, Xylaria, Aspergillus, Talaromyces, Curvularia, Coprinellus, Alternaria, Periconia, Coprinopsis, and Pithomyces. The life activities of the dominant genera, especially Xylaria, Curvularia, and Aspergillus may have a strong correlation with the coatings deterioration process, which can be used in the indoor fungus test.
