Abstract

The work aims to improve the wear resistance and friction reduction performance of the 304 stainless steel. The Ti3SiC2-Ni based self-lubricating wear-resistant composite coatings with three different ratios were prepared by LDM-8060 semiconductor laser processing system. XRD, SEM and built-in EDS were adopted to characterize 304 stainless steel and Ti3SiC2-Ni based coatings, and their tribological properties and wear mechanisms at room temperature and 600 ℃ were analyzed systematically. The composite coatings were mainly composed of Cr0.19Fe0.7Ni0.11 solid solution, hard phase Fe2C, Cr7C3 and TiC as well as lubricating phase Ti3SiC2. The average microhardness of the coatings was 451.14, 419.33 and 359.92HV0.5 respectively, significantly higher than those of 304 stainless steel (238.91HV0.5). At room temperature (RT), the average coefficient of friction (ACOF) of Ti3SiC2-Ni based composite coatings was 0.41, 0.46 and 0.48, respectively, wear rate was 6.37×10-5, 16.52×10-5 and 4.16×10-5 mm3/(N?m), respectively, which were lower than those of 304 stainless steel (0.56, 46.35×10-5 mm3/(N?m)). At 600 ℃, the ACOF of the Ti3SiC2-Ni based composite coatings was 0.38, 0.43 and 0.41, respectively, wear rate was 12.51×10-5, 7.58×10-5 and 7.79×10-5 mm3/(N?m), respectively, which were also lower than those of 304 stainless steel (0.66, 24.25×10-5 mm3/(N?m)). At room temperature and 600 ℃, Ti3SiC2-Ni based composite coatings can effectively improve the micro-hardness of 304 stainless steel, and then improve the tribological properties. The Ti3SiC2-Ni based composite coating with 10% Ti3SiC2 shows the best wear resistance at 600 ℃, while the Ti3SiC2-Ni based composite coating with 5% Ti3SiC2 shows the best friction reduction performance at RT and 600 ℃.
