The work aims to study the influence of different surface topography on surface friction coefficient and abrasion resistance of cold work die steel through the smooth surface topography and the surface topography with corrosion pits obtained by polishing and chemical corrosion. The distribution and size of surface topography were observed and measured by scanning electron microscopy and laser scanning confocal microscopy and the effect of corrosion time on surface morphology was also studied. The effect of surface morphology on surface friction coefficient and wear properties of cold-working die steel was studied by friction and wear tests of samples before and after corrosion. The corrosion pits on the surface of NO.1 and NO.3 were more obvious than those on NO.2 and NO.4. The friction coefficient of NO.0 increased with the increase of friction time, while the friction coefficients of NO.1, NO.2 and NO.4 were relatively stable and had no obvious increasing trend. NO.4 had the lowest friction coefficient, which was 52.26% lower than that of NO.0. Compared with other samples, the wear marks of NO.0 were more regular, and there were scales on the wear marks, while the other samples did not. The peak values on both sides of the wear marks of NO.0 were larger, and the wear marks of other samples were not very obvious. The surface topography with certain corrosion pits can be obtained by immersion corrosion. The size and depth of corrosion pits are related to corrosion time and the depth of corrosion pit has great effect on friction coefficient. The corrosion pits can reduce the secondary wear resulted by abrasive dust. The reasonable surface topography can effectively improve the wear condition of die.
