The work aims to study the variation rules of cutting force of micro-textured tool at different cutting speed, thus improving the cutting performance of tools. Laser technology was used to process the micro textures on the rake face of PCBN tools to fabricate 30 μm perpendicular micro groove and 40 μm parallel micro groove. The main cutting force, radial force and axial force produced in the cutting process were collected by dynamometer at cutting speed v=60 m/min, v=72 m/min and v=85 m/min when micro-textured PCBN tools were used to dry-cut AISI 52100 material respectively. Moreover, the cutting conditions same as the actual cutting tests such as cutting parameters, micro-textured tool materials and workpiece materials were set up according to the finite element simulation technology so that the changes of cutting force of micro-textured tools at different cutting speed could be analyzed theoretically from stress of tool surface and the results could be compared with the cutting test results. Finally, under different cutting speed, the cutting force produced by each micro-textured tool was affected by cutting speed to different extent. Both 30 μm perpendicular micro-groove PCBN tools and 40 μm parallel micro-groove PCBN tools could obtain smaller cutting force at higher cutting speed, and the change of cutting speed had greater influence on the main cutting force, radial force and axial force. Perpendicular micro groove and parallel micro groove can effectively reduce the main cutting force and radial force along with the increase of cutting speed. At the same cutting speed, perpendicular micro groove can obtain smaller cutting force when compared with parallel micro groove. The results lay a foundation for cutting AISI 52100 materials with micro-textured PCBN tools.
