Abstract

The works aims to prepare a novel and freestanding three dimensional (3D) porous Ti/TiO2 nanotubes (Ti/TiO2NTs) composite membrane electrode with high capacity. The 3D porous Ti membrane with small pore size and high volume utilization was prepared by nonsolvent induce phase separation (NIPS) and high temperature sintering. Anodic oxidizing process was adopted to generate TiO2 nanotubes on the surface so as to prepare the porous Ti/TiO2NTs composite membrane electrode. The raw Ti membrane was obtained by 3 μm Ti powder, NMP, PVP and PAN. After being scraped, the as-prepared Ti membrane was sintered at 1000 ℃ in argon atmosphere to obtain the porous Ti membrane with pore size of 2~6 μm. TiO2NTs were directly grown on the Ti surface by anodic oxidizing to obtain the Ti/TiO2NTs composite membrane electrode. This novel Ti/TiO2NTs composite membrane electrode showed excellent electrochemical performance for supercapacitor applications. The specific capacitance was up to 385.34 mF/cm2 at current density of 2 mA/cm2. Remarkably, the capacitance still kept 125.14 mF/cm2 at a higher current density of 10 mA/cm2. Compared to TiO2 nanoparticles, the porous Ti/TiO2NTs composite membrane electrode exhibits outstanding electrochemical performance and provides a new way for next-generation storage equipment.
