Abstract

The work aims to study synergistic antifriction effects of laser-texturing and solid lubrication coating with cylinder/piston ring as test object. Microporous treatment was performed on piston ring surface with pulse laser. MoS2 composite coatings with different concentration of MoS2 particle were deposited in the micropores in the method of electric pulse deposition. Reciprocating friction test was performed to study how textured surface deposition of solid lubricant affected piston ring-cylinder liner. Concentration of MoS2 particles in the plating solution had a great influence on hardness and tribological property of the coatings. Provided that current density was the same, hardness of the coatings was the maximum, and the composite coatings had the optimum friction coefficient and the lowest wear rate under dry friction when mass concentration of MoS2 particles was 5 g/L in the plating solution. Textured composite coatings could significantly improve tribological property between contact surfaces. Compared with the non-textured friction pair, friction coefficient of the textured composite coatings decreased by nearly 0.2, and wear rate decreased by 50%. Surface texturing can effectively store solid lubricant and abrasive grains between friction pair, generate continuous lubricating film on the contact surface and reduce abrasive wear.
