Abstract

The work aims to realize leg protection and damage repair of transmission tower using cold galvanized coating. Corrosion resistance of the cold galvanized coating on transmission tower legs was investigated by performing electrochemical experiments and using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). When completing electrochemical corrosion in NaCl and NaHSO3 solution, corrosion rate of galvanized coating decreased as solution pH increased, corrosion current density decreased, and corrosion resistance gradually improved. In acid solution with pH=4, surface of the zinc layer was rugged, and corrosion products were mainly ZnSO4. In neutral and alkaline solution, the zinc layer dissolved weakly, of the corroded zinc layer surface was relatively smooth, corrosion products were acicular or flake-like, corrosion products were ZnSO4 and Zn5(OH)8C12?H2O. In the NaCl and NaHSO3 acid solution, the corrosion potential is relatively low, the corrosion rate is relatively fast, and intergranular corrosion of galvanized layer makes the surface uneven. With the increase of pH value, the corrosion rate of galvanized layer decreases rapidly. In alkaline solution with pH=10, the corrosion rate of galvanized layer decreases significantly, and corrosion resistance improves.
