Abstract
The work aims to develop a kind of waterborne epoxy anticorrosive paint of excellent corrosion resistance. With waterborne epoxy resin emulsion and waterborne polyamide curing agent as film-forming resins, isopropanol and propylene glycol monomethyl ether (PGME) as coalescing agents, sericite, barite powder and talc powder as fillers, and aluminium triphosphate, zinc phosphate and iron oxide red as anticorrosive pigments, the waterborne epoxy anticorrosive paint was prepared based upon high speed dispersion and grinding of the paint system mixed with flash-rust inhibitor, deionized water, dispersant, antifoaming agent and anti-settling agent. Overall performance of the coating was tested by performing physical and mechanical tests, anti-acid, alkaline and saline solution immersion soaking and anti-neutral salt spray tests. Adhesion, flexibility and impact resistance of the coating reached level one, 1 mm and 50 cm, respectively. The intact coating featured in excellent acid resistance (5% H2SO4, 168 h), alkali resistance (5% NaOH, 168 h), salt water resistance (3% NaCl, 30 d) and salt fog resistance (GB/T 1771—2007, 1000 h). When the paint is prepared with waterborne epoxy resin emulsion with an epoxy equivalent of 500±50 and waterborne polyamide curing agent as film-forming resins, the ratio of epoxy group/active hydrogen equivalent is 1:1, the pigment volume concentration is 30%, and aluminium triphosphate, zinc phosphate and iron oxide red mixture are used as anticorrosive pigments, and the coating exhibits good physical and mechanical properties as well as corrosion resistance.
