Abstract

Graphene composite anticorrosive coating has attracted more and more attention due to excellent chemical stability, rapid electrical conductivity, outstanding mechanical properties of graphene, as well as strong adhesion and film forming property of polymer resin. However, current studies on graphene composite anticorrosive coating mainly focused on solvent-based composite coatings, which was not environmental friendly. Speeding up study on graphene application to waterborne anticorrosive coatings and developing novel graphene waterborne composite anticorrosive coatings featuring in low cost, high performance and environmental friendliness become the research hotspot in the future. Functional application of graphene to waterborne polyurethane anticorrosive coatings, waterborne epoxy resin anticorrosive coatings, waterborne acrylic coatings and waterborne inorganic zinc-rich coatings were introduced. Addition of graphene to waterborne anticorrosive coatings could enhance the adhesion to the substrate, physical shielding property, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of the coatings, and exhibit environmental friendliness and safety features, thus greatly expanding application scope of waterborne anticorrosive coatings. In addition, key points and difficulties in the functional application of graphene waterborne composite anticorrosive coating were also introduced in classification, including selection of graphene, supporting system study of graphene and waterborne coatings, graphene amount as well as dispersibility and compatibility of graphene in waterborne coatings.
