Abstract
The work aims to improve comprehensive working performance of roller by preparing superhard nano TiAlSiN coating on roller surface. Superhard nano micron TiAlSiN coating was deposited on the surface of roller working surface and high-speed steel sample by applying cathodic arc ion-plating technique. Coating thickness was measured with X-ray fluorescence measurement system, surface characteristics and coating morphology were observed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), coating elements composition were analyzed with energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), and coating hardness and coating-substrate adhesion strength were measured and analyzed with nanoindentation and Rockwell hardness tester. Si content of 1.97 μm thick TiAlSiN coating on the roller surface was 4.21at.%, the microhardness was 37.69 GPa, and coating-substrate adhesion strength was HF3 in accordance with VDI-3198 industrial grade, and the adhesion strength was fairly strong. Verified by actual forming by roller press on production line, working life of coated roller was 5 times that of the uncoated one, roller featured in high strength, wear resistance, oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, reduced adhesion strength, etc. Abrasion, spalling, fatigue crack, roll winding up, adhesive rolling, etc. were significantly improved. Superhard nano TiAlSiN coating prepared on roller surface can significantly improve comprehensive working performance of the roller.
