Abstract

The work aims to predict solvent concentration variation and final film quality in the process of binary system paint film formation by building model of solvent diffusion coefficient of binary coating solution and drying model of binary coating, and performing numerical simulation. Hence the study is of great significance to guide coating preparation process and optimize equipment structure. Mathematical models of calculating solvent diffusion coefficient in the binary solvent-polymer coating solution, and the progress in numerical simulation of binary solvent-polymer coating drying model were reviewed. Problems existing in the model of solvent diffusion coefficient, binary solvent-polymer coating drying model and its numerical simulation were analyzed. In order to further improve the coating drying model and numerical simulation accuracy, properties of substrate and coating solution, film shrinkage, film temperature change and other factors should be considered more comprehensively when building the binary solvent-polymer coating drying model. And an effective experimental verification method was proposed for solvent diffusion coefficient model and binary solvent-polymer coating drying model, respectively, making it possible to predict accuracy of the models. Predicting solvent diffusion behavior of binary solvent-polymer system in the process of drying can enhance understanding of film formation process of solvent-polymer coated films, and benefit coating products design and coating process optimization.
