Abstract

The work aims to explore healing performance and corrosion resistance of self-healing coating made of polyaniline/zinc phosphate organic/inorganic composite passive filler and epoxy-polysiloxane resin preliminarily. The healing function in parts subject to artificial damage and corrosion resistance of the composite coatings were evaluated with localized electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (LEIS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The localized electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests indicated that the epoxy-polysiloxane clear coating exhibited self-healing function and excellent corrosion resistance. The polyaniline/zinc phosphate organic-inorganic composite passive filler treated with coupling agent could significantly improve self-healing performance and corrosion resistance of the epoxy-polysiloxane coating. Provided that 0.3% (as a percentage in the mass of epoxy-polysiloxane coating) of HCE was added, the coating exhibited best self-healing function and corrosion resistance, impedance value was up to 70 k? after the defective part was healed, which was 9 times as high as that of epoxy-polysiloxane varnish. The impedance value increased as the soak time prolonged, and would amount to 1011 ??cm2 after the sample has been soaked for 3750 h. When the coating is damaged, polyaniline/zinc phosphate organic-inorganic filler subject to redox reaction produces oxidation film; polyaniline has crosslinking-solidifying reaction with epoxy-polysiloxane resin, thus forming film in defective parts of the substrate and improving compactness of the coating. Therefore, the two jointly contribute to the best corrosion resistance and self-healing function of HCE3 coating sample.
