Abstract

Effect of nano-particle SiC on the frictional behavior, and microhardness etc of Ni coatings were researched. Ni/nano-SiC composite coatings were prepared by high frequency pulse electrodeposition, and the NiS/nano-SiC gradient composite coatings were obtained by changing duty cycles; The bond strength of Ni/nano-SiC composite coatings was measured by tensile test; The friction coefficient and wear-resisting property were investigated by friction and wear test; The distributing of microhardness and E in cross-section of Ni/nano-SiC gradient composite coatings were estimated by nanoindentaion. The bond strength of Ni/nano-SiC gradient composite coatings is beyond 40 MPa, and that of Ni/nano-SiC composite coatings is only 19 MPa. The friction coefficient of Ni/nano-SiC composite coatings with 1.5wt.% SiC is about 0.26, and that of purity Ni coatings is about 0.40. Moreover, the grinding crack width and depth of the Ni/nano-SiC composite coating are smaller than that of purity Ni coatings. The mircohardness and E in the superficial layer of Ni/nano-SiC gradient composite coatings are 6.0 GPa and 250 GPa separately, and that near interface are 1.9 GPa and 160 GPa. The bond strength of Ni/nano-SiC gradient composite coatings is obviously higher than that of non-gradient coating, the wear-resistant property enhances and the friction coefficient decreases with the increasing of nano-particle SiC content, and the nanoindentaion microhardness and E augment correspondingly.
