Abstract

Objective Nickel-based nano TiN composite deposition layers were remelted by laser process. The effects of laser remeltign parameters on the surface quality, binding force and hardness were researched. Method Orthogonal experiments that different laser remelting parameters(scan rate, amout of overlap, defocus amount, etc) were applied and influences were analysed on the remelted coating to obtain optimum process parameters by using microhardness, SEM and scratch tester to detect hardness, surface morphology and binding force.Result By controlling the remelting parameters on the coating surface energy and surface topography in order to reduce the differences in surface properties, preferably laser remelting process parameters were electric current 115A,pulse width of 8ms,frequency of 10Hz,dofocus amount 15mm,and the scanning speed of 230mm/min to obtain smooth surface topography, binding force up to >60N, the average hardness values 632HV, and hardness distribute uniform. Conclusion Laser remelting process can eliminate the gap produced by nano composite deposition, and nano composite layer become compact and uniform. A good metallurgical bond can be formed between the layer and substrate, the layer surface hardness distributed uniform and the mechanical properties approach consistent.
