Abstract

Objective To combine the wear-resistant materials, coating preparation technology and the indication function of phosphor particles, and develop a simple and economic coating monitoring technology. Methods A Cu-14Al-X coating and a composite coating of Cu-14Al-X and SrAl2 O4 : Eu2+,Dy3+ phosphorescence particle were prepared on T3 copper substrate by cold gas dynamic spray. SEM, EDS and fluorescence spectrophotometer were employed to observe the morphology of coatings and analyze the distribution and luminescent intensity of the embedded particles. Reciprocating friction and wear tester was used to evaluate the friction properties of the coatings under dry sliding condition at room temperature. Results Phosphor particles distributed homoge-nously in the cold sprayed Cu-14Al-X / phosphorescence composite coating. Under ultraviolet light, a strong luminescence was visible in yellow-green light. The micro-hardness increased with the increased dose of phosphorescence particles. A shallow track was observed on the worn Cu-14Al-X / phosphorescence composite coating, which indicated a slight abrasive wear occurred during the sliding process. For the Cu-14Al-X coating, intense plastic deformation, adhesion of small drop-cuts and abrasive dusts were observed on the worn surface, abrasive and fatigue wears dominated in the sliding process. Conclusion The addition of phosphor particles improved the wear-resistance performance of composite coating. Under ultraviolet light, no luminescence was visible on the worn Cu-14Al-X / phosphorescence composite coating, realizing the function of detecting the existence of coating.
