Abstract:
      As an environment-friendly battery device, proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFCs) has been paid more and more attention in the modern society which advocates the harmony between man and nature. Bipolar plate is one of the important component of PEMFCs, and its performance is closely related to the development of PEMFCs. Although stainless steel bipolar plate has excellent electrical conductivity and strength, it still faces some problems such as corrosion and passivation, etc. in the harsh working environment of PEMFCs. In recent years, researchers at home and abroad have carried out extensive explorations to solve the surface protection problems of stainless steel bipolar plate. Through in-depth research, it is found that the effective way to solve this problem is to prepare protective coating with high conductivity and high corrosion resistance on its surface. This paper briefly describes the working principle of PEMFCs and the performance requirements for the bipolar plate, and puts forward its own problems and modification problems based on the operating environment and working requirements of the stainless steel bipolar plate. In addition, this paper classifies the surface protective coatings of stainless steel bipolar plates in recent years, including carbon-based coatings, metal and its compound coatings and hydrophobic coatings. The paper also introduces research progress of all kinds of coatings on the protection of stainless steel bipolar plates, and analyzes and compares the advantages and disadvantages of different methods. On this basis, the development direction of surface protection of stainless steel bipolar plate and the research hotspot of surface modification technology in the future are clarified.
