Abstract:
The advantages and disadvantages of 4 types of eco-friendly marine antifouling materials were summarized and the research progress in environmentally friendly antifoulants was overviewed briefly. Then, a novel strategy “Dynamic Surface Antifouling (DSA)” was introduced and the development of a series of biodegradable polymer-based marine antifouling materials was summed up, including biodegradable polyester-polyurethane, modified polyester and degradable hydrolyzable poly (es-ter-co-acrylate). Such polymers with dynamic surface formed by the cleavage of main chain show good antifouling efficacy. Moreover, the degradation products are non-toxic small molecules, thus avoiding causing marine microplastic pollution. In par-ticular, incorporating environmentally friendly antifoulant into biodegradable polymer can construct an eco-friendly antifouling system with excellent antifouling performance in either dynamic or static condition. Finally, the future development directions of high-performance antifouling system were prospected.
