Abstract:
The work aims to study synergistic effect of Tween-80 and CTAB coexisting in HCl solution on corrosion inhibi-tion of steel. Electrochemical characteristics of steel corrosion, synergistic effect of Tween-80 and CTAB, and surface morphology of corroded steel were investigated by means of weight loss method, polarization curve, impedance spectroscopy, synergistic parameters, SEM and AFM images. At each reaction temperature, when different concentrations of Tween-80 and 2? 10?5 mol/L CTAB coexist in HCl solution, corrosion current density reduced significantly while charge transfer resistance increased significantly. The compounded inhibitor was a mixed-type inhibitor which could simultaneously inhibit anodic and cathodic reactions, and its inhibition efficiency decreased with the increase of temperature. At the reaction temperature of 30, 40 and 50 ℃, the optimum inhibition effect could be achieved if the concentration of Tween-80 was 5?10?6, 2?10?5 and 2?10?5 mol/L, respectively; and the optimum inhibition efficiency was 97.05%, 94.00% and 93.96%, respectively. SEM and AFM images showed that the steel surfaces was flat and intact, and average roughness was small after 12 hours of reaction in HCl solution containing compounded inhibitor. Tween-80 and CTAB have good synergistic effect when they coexist at a certain concentration in HCl solution. The compounded inhibitor can significantly improve inhibition efficiency and effectively inhibit corrosion of steel.
