Abstract:
The work aims to study effects of MoS2 and graphite filling on tribological properties on self-lubricating fabric composites. Friction and wear properties of MoS2 and graphite-filled PTFE/cotton fabric were studied under various loading conditions, and worn surface and microstructure of the fabric composites were observed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Under lower loads, filling with 5% MoS2 could reduce wear rate of PTFE/cotton fabric composites more effectively; whereas under higher loads, filling with 10% graphite could reduce wear rate of the composites more effectively. Provided with wear rate of 219.52 N, wear rate of the PTFE/cotton fabric composites filled with 5% MoS2 decreased from 1.28×10-14 m3/(N•m) to 0.6×10-14 m3/(N•m) by 50%; wear rate of the composites filled with 10% graphite decreased from 1.28×10-14 m3/(N•m) to 0.91×10-14 m3/(N•m) by 28%. Filling with graphite and MoS2 alleviates embedding and cutting effects of abrasive grains, inhibits wear of the composites and improves wear resistance of PTFE/cotton fabric composites.
