Abstract:
The work aims to improve overall performance of silica sol-styrene acrylate composite coating and provide reference for application of organic-inorganic composite coating. Silica sol was modified with KH560 in the method of water-bath heating and mechanical stirring/ultrasonic dispersing. Samples containing 15%, 30% and 45% (mass fraction, applicable to the whole context) unmodified/modified nano silica sol-styrene acrylate composite coating were prepared by mixing unmodified/modified nano silica sol with styrene acrylate emulsion. Modification was verified to be successful by infrared spectrometer. Overall performance and microstructure of unmodified/modified silica sol-styrene acrylate composite coating were characterized with ultraviolet/visible/near-infrared spectrophotometer, mechanical property tester and scanning electron microscope. Overall performance of composite coating containing modified silica sol was significantly improved. The composite coating exhibited the best overall performance when content of modified nano silica sol was 30%. Wear loss, adhesive force, impact resistance, strength and elongation at break of the coating was 0.078 g, grade 1, 62 mm, 4.74 MPa and 205.56%, respectively, its adhesive force, impact resistance, strength and elongation at break was 1 level, 6 mm, 0.59 MPa and 10.34% higher than that of unmodified coating. Nano silica sol can be successfully modified by KH560. Overall performance of the silica sol-styrene acrylate composite coating can be improved by using modified silica sol instead of unmodified. Proper content of modified silica sol is 30% during practical application.
