Abstract:
The work aims to improve the compatibility between nano silica and resinand research the surface grafted polymer by virtue of "click" chemical process. Poly (methyl methacrylate-maleic anhydride) (P(MMA-MA)) and poly (methyl methacrylate-glycidyl methacrylate) (P(MMA-GMA)) were firstly synthesized by common free radical polymerization, then the two polymers reacted with propargyl and sodium azide respectively to introduce alkynyl and azide groups on a molecular chain. Later the two had click chemical reaction with azide group modified nano-silica particles to realize nano-silica coated modification, and the structure was characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TG), infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analysis and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The polymer was grafted onto the surface of nano silica, dispersion of the silica nanoparticles improved significantly after coating the first layer of polymer and decreased after coating the second layer of polymer. The dispersion properties of the nano silica can be improved significantly by coating polymer on its surface.
