Abstract: |
The work aims to prepare fine vinyl acetate emulsions. Polyvinyl acetate emulsion was prepared by using vinyl acetate (VAc) in emulsion polymerization method. Emulsion properties such as solid content, viscosity, aggregation stability, mechanical stability, dilution stability and water absorption were tested, and the effects of amount of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), ammonium peroxydisulfate and emulsifier OP-10, initial reaction temperature were also investigated. The amount of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), ammonium peroxydisulfate and OP-10 as well as initial temperature had different effects on emulsion preparation and properties. The best emulsion could be prepared provided with initial reaction temperature of 70 ℃ and dropping time of 120 min, amount of polyvinyl alcohol, OP-10 and ammonium peroxydisulfate of 8.8%, 1.7% and 0.2%, respectively. The amount of PVA, OP-10 and ammonium peroxydisulfate shall be controlled during polymerization process of polyvinyl acetate emulsion. |
