Background

Surface technology is an interdisciplinary technological system, including both basic sciences such as interface theory, surface failure theory, corrosion science, and tribology, and covering engineering application technology such as corrosion resistance, surface friction and wear, change of surface properties, and surface beautification and adornment. Studies on surface technology can give the materials expected properties that do not found in nature, effectively improve the performance of materials and products, ensure product reliability and safety, lengthen the service life of products or cast materials and devices special physical and chemical properties (conversion and storage of acousto-optic magnetoelectricity, bionics, biology, etc.), effectively save the limited resources and energy, reduce environmental pollution and maintain sustainable development.

Countries around the world are paying great attention and actively involved in the research and development of surface treatment technology, and tremendous research achievements have been made. According to Scopus database, the number of publications in this field is increasing year by year. Moreover, the number of publications by Chinese researchers ranks NO. 1 all over the world; among the top ten research institutes with the highest publications worldwide, China accounts for six.

 

                                                                  

                                                     

 

 

   

The above statistics showed that China has done a lot of researches in the field of surface treatment technology, achieved remarkable results, accumulated rich practical experience, and condensed important theories, principles, technology and measures in the field of material surface science and engineering. There are several well-known experts and scholars in the field of material surface science and engineering in our country, including Professor ZHOU Ke-song (academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering), Professor REN Lu-quan (academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences), Changjiang Scholars Professor WU Li-min and Professor YU Liang-min announced, etc. All of them have held and conducted several national key research and development projects and won the national prize for progress in science and technology and the national award for technological invention. Their achievements have important contributions to the surface technology researches in the world.

During the past decade, the publications from China were not only greatly increased in number year by year, but also significantly improved in the quality, which has attracted much more attention in the world. According to Scopus data, for these editor board members of our journal, the total citation frequency, the average cited times per paper and the h index is respectively 6656, 13.4 and 41 for Professor DING Wen-jiang from Shanghai Jiaotong University; 5033, 18.9, and 37 for Professor CAO Chu-nan from Zhejiang University; 4419, 20.5, and 33 for Professor WU Li-min from Fudan University; 2629, 26.6, and 29 for Professor LIN Chang-jian from Xiamen University. In addition, our journal has a large number of well-known domestic and foreign expert authors, and plays a good academic leading role in the field of surface technology.
